Two Truths and a Lie

This ingenious game is a blend of mystery and revelation, often chosen as the first step in team-building sessions. Members stand in a circle, presenting themselves and offering two honest facts and one fabricated statement about their lives.

As everyone listens attentively, they take mental notes, later endeavoring to pinpoint the fabricated statement. It’s not just about deception; it’s an opportunity to uncover intriguing tidbits about peers, fostering connections built on shared laughter and astonishment.

Suddenly Stories

Imagine a game that kindles the embers of creativity and continuity. Assemble your team, ignite a story with a trilogy of sentences, and end with the intriguing word ‘suddenly…’. Like a relay race of creativity, the subsequent participant picks up, weaving their triad of lines, concluding similarly.

As the tale zigzags unpredictably, team members find themselves in an exhilarating dance of improvisation and adaptation. It’s not just a game; it’s a dynamic exercise that hones creativity under pressure.

Jigsaw Puzzle Race

Turn a leisurely pastime into an adrenaline-fueled race. Procure identical jigsaw puzzles and segregate your team into spirited groups. Their mission? Assemble the scattered pieces, forging a complete image before the others.

As the clock ticks, members collaborate, delegate, and strategize, every piece falling into place becoming a testament to their synchronized effort. It’s more than a puzzle; it’s a lesson in collaboration, focus, and the joy of shared achievement.

The Egg Drop Challenge

There’s a peculiar charm to this challenge, a blend of physics, creativity, and suspense. Delineate your crew into squads, arming them with rudimentary tools: adhesive tape, cardboard cylinders, and sheets of paper.

Their objective is deceptively simple: engineer a fortress for a fragile, uncooked egg, ensuring its safety when hurled from a lofty altitude.

This exercise extends beyond quirky amusement, spotlighting the team’s prowess in innovation and their shared jubilation or commiseration over the egg’s fate.

What’s My Name?

Echoing moments from cult classic sitcoms like The Office, where Michael Scott’s missteps lead to unintended hilarity, “What’s My Name?” is a game of concealed identities.

Participants write down renowned celebrities, from vintage stars to modern icons, sticking these names onto unaware colleagues’ foreheads or backs.

As everyone mingles, they drop hints and field questions, all while deciphering their concealed persona. The ensuing interactions are often comedic, sometimes perplexing, but always an avenue for lively conversation and laughter.

Sneak-a-Peek

Delve into a game that challenges cognitive abilities and the power of accurate description. Using building blocks, for example Legos, a complex design is erected, hidden away from the participants’ gaze.

One representative from each team is granted the privilege to ‘sneak a peek’, memorizing as much as they can in mere moments. Once back, they’re tasked with narrating a vivid, step-by-step account, guiding their team to recreate the intricate design.

The pressure is tangible, as precision, effective communication, and team collaboration decide the victors.

Board Game Tournaments

Transform a regular afternoon into a spirited board game marathon, transporting participants to diverse worlds—from the real estate ventures of Monopoly to the strategic battles of Risk.

Apart from the sheer entertainment value, these tournaments offer therapeutic relaxation, allowing employees to momentarily escape work pressures.

As teams maneuver game pieces, strategize, and perhaps endure unfortunate game outcomes, it fortifies bonds, celebrates diligence, and injects a healthy dose of competition. Winning or losing becomes secondary, replaced by the camaraderie and tales of board game heroics.

in office event ideas

Office Trivia Games

Who doesn’t enjoy the a good trivia challenge? Engage the entire office with an amalgamation of intriguing general knowledge questions intertwined with niche trivia tailored to your industry or the fascinating hobbies of staff members.

As colleagues band together, forming competitive teams, they brainstorm, discuss, and share insights, eyes on the coveted prize—or just the sheer honor of being trivia champions. This exercise promotes learning, strengthens collaboration, and introduces a refreshing perspective to mundane work topics.

Catch Phrase

Enter the realm of words, where direct mentions are forbidden, and ingenious indirect descriptions are the only way forward. Teams face off in a linguistic tug-of-war, describing concepts or phrases without ever uttering the title.

It’s a game that weaves in elements of strategy, vocabulary prowess, and an uncanny ability to decipher abstract descriptions.

As participants articulate clues and teammates hazard guesses, it fosters deeper connections, cultivates trust, and hones their collective communication skills—all cloaked under the guise of leisurely fun.

Office Improv Workshop

Imagine the office ambiance filled with sporadic laughter, wild gesticulations, and dramatic enactments. That’s the charm of improv workshops, a delightful blend of spontaneity and wit.

It pushes employees out of their comfort zones, urging them to think on their feet and react instantaneously. Beyond the laughter, it instills invaluable professional skills: adept communication, sharp focus, and the ability to adapt.

And with the guidance of a seasoned improv professional, your staff not only learns but also treasures the memories of unrestrained office hilarity.

Hero, Highlight and Hardship

Delve into the personal narratives of your team members with this introspective exercise. It’s more than just sharing; it’s a journey into the core influences of every individual.

By asking each member to highlight a personal hero, a proud moment, and a challenging time, the activity uncovers the tapestry of experiences that shape them. Perhaps it’s a grandparent who taught resilience, a memory of a triumphant marathon, or a personal battle with health.

As these stories unfold, barriers dissolve. In their place, emerges an atmosphere of trust, respect, and deepened bonds, humanizing the workplace.

Strengths-Finding Workshops

Welcome to a transformative workshop that pivots focus from mundane work tasks to the underlying strengths of each team member.

By engaging in a detailed exploration of individual and collective strengths, employees gain insights into their unique capabilities and how they mesh within the team.

It’s not just about introspection; it’s a dynamic process where participants offer feedback, share anecdotes, and collaboratively discover how their strengths interplay. The outcome? A synergized team that leverages its collective prowess, driving efficiency and innovation.

in office event ideas

Concentration or Pairs

Step into the realm of memory and collaboration with this timeless card game. Participants face a grid of face-down cards, with the challenge of finding matching symbols. But there’s a twist—it’s a collective endeavor.

Teams strategize, recall previously flipped cards, and navigate the grid with increasing efficiency. Amidst the playful tension, there’s laughter over forgotten pairs and cheers for successful matches.

As the game progresses, it reinforces teamwork, hones memory, and rekindles the simple joy of card games from our childhood.

Democratic Employee Awards

Redefine the paradigm of recognition with a democratic approach. Instead of top-down accolades based purely on numbers, this initiative places the power in the hands of the collective.

Employees, those in the trenches, get to decide who truly made an impact. It’s an empowering shift, valuing attributes like mentorship, dedication, and resilience.

Perhaps it’s the quiet team member who consistently aids others or the one who champions unnoticed tasks. In this refreshing setup, recognition becomes holistic, fostering a culture of appreciation and mutual respect.

in office event ideas

Active Shooter Training

In a world of unpredictability, preparedness can be a source of comfort. While the mere thought of an active shooter scenario is harrowing, equipping staff with knowledge can be empowering.

Such trainings, though somber, focus on fostering awareness, decision-making skills, and fostering a collective response strategy. The goal isn’t to induce fear but to instill confidence.

When teams undergo this training, an unsaid bond forms—borne out of shared knowledge and the hope of never needing to use it. It becomes a testament to the organization’s commitment to safety and the well-being of its staff.

Table Sports

Introduce a touch of recreational competition to your workplace with table sports! Whether it’s the rapid action of foosball or the swift rallies of table tennis, these games are not only affordable and space-efficient but also a fantastic way to boost morale.

Picture spontaneous matches during lunch breaks, or structured mini-tournaments fostering camaraderie. As paddles strike and tiny soccer players spin, witness increased interaction, laughter, and some light-hearted rivalry that fortifies team bonds.

in office event ideas

Themed Sales Day

Transform an ordinary sales day into a carnival of creativity and competition. Encourage your staff to indulge in thematic fancy dresses, integrating playful challenges amidst their sales tasks.

Sprinkle the environment with appetizing snacks, adding to the festive spirit. As the day culminates, award the day’s top performers with quirky prizes. By merging fun with work, watch as motivation soars and camaraderie strengthens, all while driving productivity.

Customized Jeopardy!

Elevate your team’s spirit with a customized game of Jeopardy!, tailored to the intricacies of your business or industry. Divided into teams, members will strive to outshine competitors, proving their prowess in industry knowledge.

It’s not just about answering questions, but a holistic experience where they brainstorm, strategize, and collaborate to earn the title of “industry aficionados”.

Untangle the Human Knot

Intertwine physical challenge with problem-solving as you immerse your team in the game of ‘Human Knot’. The objective might seem simple, but as hands reach across and grip unfamiliar palms, the maze of human connections is anything but.

As members strategize, communicate, and maneuver, this game fosters teamwork, patience, and understanding, leaving participants with both a sense of accomplishment and a few giggles.

Group Grouping Challenge

Catalyze genuine connections and foster team unity with the ‘Group Grouping’ challenge. While sorting based on physical attributes like height or age is straightforward, it’s the deeper layers—like the number of countries visited or live concerts attended—that truly spark conversations.

As participants discover common experiences or unique stories, the exercise morphs into a journey of understanding, bridging gaps and creating lasting bonds amidst the myriad of diverse categories.

Kansas Metal Business Owner Faces Jail Time Over Employment Tax Evasion

Kansas Metal Business Owner Faces Jail Time Over Employment Tax Evasion

[ad_1]

A recent case involving Douglas Furnell, the owner and operator of Western Metal Company in Louisburg, Kansas, offers a stern reminder of the dire consequences when one evades their duty to the federal government.

According to the Office of Public Affairs, Furnell, a resident of Leawood, Kansas, has pleaded guilty to deliberately neglecting to submit federal employment taxes for his business. This violation encompasses a duration stretching from the beginning of 2015 through the middle of 2020.

Western Metal Company, known for manufacturing custom metal products, had its owner, Furnell at the helm of its financial operations. One of his crucial duties was to timely remit the federal income and Social Security and Medicare taxes deducted from his employees’ paychecks. Court records reveal that Furnell did not only withhold the due taxes but also refrained from submitting the necessary quarterly employment tax returns. The resultant tax deficit caused to the IRS by non-compliance is $333,983.

For many small business proprietors, this situation underscores the critical importance of understanding and fulfilling tax obligations. Delays or non-compliance can result in financial penalties and severe legal repercussions. In Furnell’s case, the sentencing, scheduled for December 14, might lead to a maximum imprisonment of five years. Apart from the incarceration, Furnell is also staring down the barrel of supervised release, restitution, and additional monetary fines. The final decision rests with a federal district court judge who will consider the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other relevant factors.

The news of this case was relayed to the public by Acting Deputy Assistant Attorney General Stuart M. Goldberg of the Justice Department’s Tax Division and U.S. Attorney Kate E. Brubacher for the District of Kansas.

IRS-Criminal Investigation is currently delving deeper into the case, reminding business owners of the vigilant eye of regulatory bodies. For those in the small business community, this incident serves as a case study of the importance of transparency, ethical financial practices, and ensuring that one’s business remains compliant with all tax obligations.

The case’s prosecution is in the hands of Trial Attorney Erika V. Suhr of the Tax Division and Assistant U.S. Attorney D. Christopher Oakley of the District of Kansas.

For many, this incident emphasizes the balance that must be maintained between entrepreneurship and legal obligations. As the saga of Western Metal Company unfolds, it might well be a wake-up call for small business owners nationwide about the significance of maintaining financial integrity.

Live Music Booking for Bars

Live Music Booking for Bars

[ad_1]

If you want to boost business in your bar, live music booking may help. Whether you book a band, solo artists, or a trio of musicians, adding live musicians to your bar fare will help you draw new customers to your venue.

Studies have proven that listening to music is good for people’s health. It’s also good for your bottom line. So as you learn how to manage a bar, booking quality entertainment should be high on your list. Here’s a guide to adding live music to your bar business plan.

The Power of Live Performances in Bars

live music booking

Live music performances can bring numerous benefits to a bar. Here are some more advantages:

  • Enhances Atmosphere: Live music can create a vibrant, engaging atmosphere that makes your bar more appealing. This can help differentiate your bar from others and provide a unique experience for your customers.
  • Attracts New Customers: As you mentioned, musicians and bands often have their own followers who may visit your bar to watch them perform. This can bring in a new audience that may not have known about or visited your bar otherwise.
  • Increases Customer Stay Duration: Research indicates that patrons stay longer in live music venues. The longer they stay, the more they are likely to order additional food and drinks.
  • Boosts Revenue: With increased patronage and stay duration, your bar could see a significant boost in revenue. Live music can be a successful strategy for increasing both sales and tips.
  • Creates Memorable Experiences: Live music can help create unforgettable experiences for your patrons, increasing the likelihood they’ll return to your bar and recommend it to their friends and family.
  • Strengthens Community Ties: Hosting local bands or artists can help strengthen your ties with the local community, enhancing your bar’s reputation as a supportive local business.
  • Promotes Special Events: Live music can also help promote special events, like New Year’s Eve, St. Patrick’s Day, or your bar’s anniversary. It can make these events more attractive and exciting, bringing in more customers.

Overall, incorporating live music into your bar’s offerings can be a very effective way to enhance customer experience and increase business.

The Impact of Live Music on Bar Ambience

Every bar has a unique atmosphere and vibe, often dictated by its decor, location, and clientele. For instance, a bar designed with wooden interiors and Western decor will likely attract patrons with a fondness for country tunes.

This ambiance sets the tone for the musical choices that can benefit the bar. By selecting a band or performer that complements and enhances this ambiance, bar owners can significantly boost sales, foster customer loyalty, and create innovative marketing avenues.

When curating a musical lineup, it’s essential to prioritize acts that align with your venue’s established theme and ambiance.

Remember, your regulars are your primary audience. To retain them, it’s crucial to avoid acts that could potentially feel out of place and disrupt the established vibe.

Boosting Revenue with Live Bands

live music booking

Indeed, when hosting live music, there’s an inevitable cost attached. It’s prudent for bar owners to allocate a portion of their advertising or marketing budget for this entertainment expense.

Typically, bands and performers come with a wide pricing range, anywhere from $500 to $3,000. Interestingly, the price tag isn’t always about the number of band members.

It primarily reflects the band’s overall popularity, reputation, and demand in the market. While some artists have a fixed performance rate, others might be more flexible, agreeing to a base fee coupled with a share from the door or cover charge.

The Basics of Booking Musicians and Bands

How do you find a band? Or solo performers? How do you choose a date? What about the cost?

Let’s dig into how it’s done.

Understanding How to Book Live Music Gigs

live music booking

The process of booking live music is more complex than a simple verbal agreement. While initial discussions might begin with a handshake, it’s essential to cement the deal with official documentation.

This agreement typically takes the form of a contract, either directly between the venue owner and the band or mediated through an agent. Such formalities ensure clarity and prevent potential misunderstandings.

In today’s digital age, several apps facilitate the booking of live music gigs. For in-demand or highly popular bands, it’s advisable to plan and book well in advance, sometimes even months ahead

Role of Live Music Booking Agents

live music booking

A seasoned booking agent typically comes equipped with a standard contract, streamlining the booking process. This document will clearly outline the agreed-upon fee, along with specifics like the performance date and the duration for which the artist is expected to play.

Leveraging the expertise of an agent can simplify negotiations and ensure that both parties have a clear understanding of their roles and expectations.

Tips for Successful Live Music Booking

The most successful live music booking will involve a band or entertainment that fits your bar’s general theme.

Before you consider a band or entertainment, take a critical look at your setup.

  • Do you have enough space for a full-size band, which may include 5 members?
  • How are your acoustics?
  • Do you have room for a dance floor?
  • Do you have a room or private space for the band to use before the performance? If not, can you rent a nearby space, such as a hotel room?
  • Do you have the electric hookups to support the band and its equipment?
  • Do you have a sound system, or must you hire a band with its own sound system?
  • Will you need to hire extra staff for events?
  • What is the range of budget that you can afford? Can you afford to pay a band a flat rate, or should you seek one that will accept a percentage of the door/cover charge?

How to Choose the Right Live Band for Your Bar

live music booking

Every bar carries its distinct personality, theme, and consequently, a particular type of clientele. The chosen live entertainment should resonate with this audience.

An effective way to ensure this fit is to actively attend performances by prospective bands or entertainers. Immersing yourself in the local music community not only aids in making informed choices but also helps in networking.

Additionally, engaging your regular customers in the selection process can be beneficial. Distributing questionnaires can glean insights into their musical preferences, suggestions, and even potential band recommendations.

Spotting and Booking New Artists: Fresh Talent for Your Venue

live music booking

Discovering and booking emerging talent can inject freshness into your bar’s music scene. Hosting events like Open Mic nights or band competitions can be an excellent platform for such talent discovery.

Encouraging customer feedback during these events, perhaps through rating cards or digital polls, can provide valuable insights.

Furthermore, being a regular attendee at local music festivals, talent showcases, or even college events can unearth hidden gems ready to bring a new energy to your venue.

Key Aspects of Negotiating a Booking Contract

live music booking

The contract is not just a document; it’s a safeguard for both the venue and the band. Importantly, it should specify the exact performance date and hours. Clarity on this ensures there’s no room for misinterpretation or disagreements later.

Additionally, pre-show preparations like sound checks should be considered, with specified times to ensure everything runs smoothly during the main event.

Payment terms are a central element in the contract. While some performers have a set rate, others might have variable structures that combine a base fee with a percentage of the gate or cover charges.

It’s paramount to lay out these details explicitly, removing any ambiguity and potential future disputes over financial matters.

Effective promotion is instrumental in attracting an audience. The contract should thus spell out promotional responsibilities for both parties. For the venue, it might involve leveraging their digital presence, including social media.

Traditional advertising shouldn’t be overlooked either. On the other hand, bands and entertainers have their promotional channels, like their official websites or fan pages. Coordinating these efforts can maximize event visibility.

Lastly, one of the pivotal and often debated parts of such contracts is the gate or cover charge percentage allocated to the band.

As bands evolve in their musical journey, so does their market value. A band’s rising or waning popularity can significantly influence this percentage, making it a dynamic and frequently negotiated aspect of the contract.

Booking Contract Summary:

  • Contract outlines performance date and hours.
  • Payment can be a flat fee or fee plus gate/cover charge.
  • Both bar and band have advertising responsibilities.
  • Percentage of gate/cover charge is a key negotiation point.
  • Band’s popularity can impact the negotiated percentage.

Effective Scheduling of Live Music Gigs

live music booking

Popular live bands and entertainment are often booked months in advance at other venues.

Keep in mind that booking a band that already has a number of local performances booked may not be a wise business decision. If there are too many shows in the area, customers may not be as avid to see the same entertainment.

Many bar owners also schedule an opening act, which has a number of benefits:

  • Warms up the crowd
  • Ensures that any issues with the sound systems will be identified and resolved before the main act
  • Gives the bar owner the chance to showcase new talent

How far in advance should I book live music artists?

You should book months in advance.

What is the process to book bands or musicians for gigs at my venue?

You can contact a member of the band/the entertainer or a booking agent. You can also make contact by using a booking App.

How can I make my venue attractive to high-quality artists and acts?

You can provide space that allows for a setup to suit the entertainment. You can also get a good reputation by providing plenty of staff to help with set up and tear down following the event.

Entertainers like to have a place to prepare themselves, such as a private room. If you don’t have that sort of space, you can consider booking a space nearby, such as a hotel room.

How can I promote live music events and gigs at my venue effectively?

Book the entertainment months in advance and regularly promote it using social media and traditional media (newspaper, radio and tv). Make a schedule for the promotions, ramping up as the event nears.
